   Sickness will make us dreary as we lose energy in high amount comparatively.  Sickness can be of any kind such as Flu, Fever, Stomach Upset, Headache, Body pain and so on. Sickness is caused due to the attack of viruses which will destroy our immune system and make us unable to fight back the disease.  So, it is mandatory to be cautious of the intake of food during illness.  Be very careful on the diet to be followed when you are sick.  Now, let us get to know about the foods that should be avoided when you are sick.

Foods that are directly or indirectly associated with Dairy falls under “Must avoid” category.  This is because of the nature of these foods.  Milk/curd is the first enemy of Cold.  Milk will produce more mucus and curd related foods will increase the flu.  Also, milk products take longer time to digest, which is very unlikely during illness.  So, it is better to avoid dairy products when you are suffering from cold.

We have heard that spicy foods are good for cold because they relieve the mucus instantly.  The actual reason is the irritation caused by Chilly and pepper will make your nose run.  But, it is notable that spicy food can cause a burning sensation to your stomach and digestive tract.

Say a big “NO” to alcohol when you are sick.  Even alcohol is considered to be the treatment for cold and congestion.  But it is not the fact.  Alcohol is diuretic that can worsen your health.  It will make you pee frequently and result in dehydration.

Researchers have shown that a high intake of sugar content will definitely suppress the immune system, which reduces the white blood cells capability to fight against the virus and can even cause inflammation.

Soft drinks are of the high content of sugar, which is prone to suppressing of immune power during viral infection.  Since the artificial sweeteners are added to the cold drinks, they cannot be broken down to digest well which will result in cramping, bloating etc.
